Overview

Cartagena is the fifth largest urban area in Colombia, a UNESCO world heritage site, and a tropical resort paradise - all rolled into one.  Cosmopolitan, relaxing, yet full of excitement, this city is one of South America's best kept secrets.  From the shops and beachfront hotels of Bocagrande to the picturesque walled center city, visitors from across South America come for the food, the fun, and the sun.

First settled in 1533 by Spaniard Don Pedro de Heredia, and named after the port of Cartagena in Spain, the city played a major role in early Spanish settlement in the Americas.  As a result, the city is filled with history showcased in fully-restored architecture, museums, and great public artwork.  And the food scene?  Expect great South American cuisine fused with spectacular global techniques.
