Overview

A handsome Spanish-Colonial home, the West House, with its plant-filled courtyard and welcoming patio is home to the Tohono Chul Park Tea Room.  The 49-acre Tohono Chul Park, listed by National Geographic Traveler as one of the top 22 Secret Gardens in the U.S. and Canada, is a leading Southwest center of desert nature, arts and culture. The Tea Room celebrates the bounty of native plants and ingredients from Arizona in its culinary creations.

The pace here is relaxing and therapeutic.  Either before or after a hike through the numerous trails and gardens, lunch on the patio of the Tea Room allows guests to recharge and savor some great, traditional cuisine with a focus on fresh and local.  A specialty is the Prickly Pear Lemonade, a treat on a warm day in the Tucson sun and an excellent pairing for a grain-fed chicken roulade with spinach and goat cheese or mixed green salad - whatever your fancy.

I've been a fan of the Tohono Chul Park Cafe since I first started coming to Tucson in 1998. The food is wonderful, and sitting out on the patio is both refreshing and relaxing. Even if there was no one to join me, I made it a point to visit the Park and Cafe every year while I was in town.

Now that my husband and I have relocated here permanently, we go often, and it's a definite Go-To location when guests are in town.

I also love the food at Acacia, so I'm happy to hear that Chef Hall will be working his magic at Tohono Chul. I only hope they will not change the menu drastically, especially not making the food too spicy. And be sure not to do away with the Chocolate Mousse Pie.
