Have You Ever Purchased A Wine To Support a Charity or Cause?

This is Gremolata's Discussion Topic of the Day for July 14, 2009.

Enjoying a glass of wine while helping others is a big trend these days. Everywhere you look, a new wine is being launched tied to a cause with a portion of the proceeds going towards a cure for a disease, helping our athletes, or feeding the hungry. With the amount of money the wine industry generates, it is great to see it going back into the community.

Have You Ever Purchased A Wine To Support a Charity or Cause? If so, which one? Was it a good choice? What do you think of these initiatives? Let the world know your thoughts!

Yes, and it was terrible. I won't get into the detials of which wine it was but clearly it was a mass-produced uber-sweet budget wine designed to sell in mass quantity at a low price versus being something one might want to enjoy - god forbid. I would make another purchase if I knew it would help others, but I also want a quality product. They should allow you to support the cause and offer a variety of non-branded vintages available for you to choose from. Example: if all of the Penfold's brands donated a $1.00/bottle to a charity, then you could choose the vintage and quality bottle you like and within your budget but still support the cause. Would be a better method I think.
