Durham & Northumberland Farmers' Market Guide 2018

Durham and Northumberland are two regions of Ontario where farming is a major industry.  As a result, these communities east of Toronto, (including Oshawa, Whitby, and Port Hope) explode each summer with fresh food and the markets are a buzz.  If you live in the city, the area is a great destination for weekends.  If you already live there, lucky you!  Here are some picks for getting the freshest farmer goods this season…  

Beaverton Farmers' Market – Fridays, 2:00pm-6:00pm 

Located in Beaverton, this market offers some of the finest fresh produce from in and around Durham Region including local produce and artisan goods. A great stop en route to the cottage. This market is located at Alexander Muir Park Greenspace behind the Library.

Cobourg Farmers' Market – Saturdays, 7:00am-1:00pm

Cobourg is a lovely little town located to the east of bustling Toronto in Northumberland County. Tempt your taste buds at the Farmers market, one of the oldest markets in Ontario.  Cobourg's Farmers' Market was established in 1839 and offers locally grown and certified organic produce, crafts, flowers, plants, cheese, farm fresh beef, sausage, atlantic seafood, breads, pastries, and other delectable items.

Port Hope Farmers' Market – Saturdays, 8:00am-12:00pm

The Farmers' Market in delicious and cute Port Hope is open 8am - noon (except for special event days), behind Town Hall every Saturday from May to October. Local growers provide fresh produce, home baked goods and arts and crafts. Throughout the season, various festivals and celebrations take place at the market and it is a great start to any visit to the charming town of Port Hope - only an hour east of Toronto.

Port Perry Farmers' Market –Saturdays, 8:00am-1:00pm

This Saturday farm market is back in Port Perry effective May 22nd and once again will be providing locally grown market fresh fruit, vegetables, farm fresh produce, fresh meat, flowers, herbs, baked goods and preserves.  A fun little market to start you adventures in Durham Region.

Brooklin Farmers' Market – Saturdays, 8:00am-3:00pm

Another great market in Durham Region. Durham has many great farms and is becoming a hot culinary destination for day trips from Toronto. This market offers some great local produce and artisan products where you can hang with the locals and share stories with the farmers.  A fun day trip! This market takes place in Whitby!

Uxbridge Farmers Market – Sundays, 9:00am-1:00pm

If you are looking for farm fresh produce and meats, homemade preserves and baking, as well as handmade crafts and artwork the Uxbridge Farmers' Market is the place to be! The Uxbridge Farmers' Market strives to have only local produce and craftspeople represented giving you a taste and experience unique to Uxbridge.

Clarington Farmers' Market – Sundays, 10:00am-2:00pm

This market in the Clarington area is home to fresh produce and meats from in and around this farming belt east of Toronto. It is a short 35 minute drive from the city and is a great destination point for discovering all that is fresh and seasonal in Durham. What a great way to spend a Sunday!  This market takes place in Newcastle.
