By Gremolata Kitchen
Serving Size: 1
The “Vieux Carre”, is named after the “French Quarter” or old district of New Orleans and is considered to be one of the signature cocktails from the city. It was invented in 1938 by Walter Bergeron, the head bartender at the Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans. It is a classic cocktail of the south for fans of rye whiskey and is seeing resurgence in popularity in many “speakeasy” style lounges in America.

1 Ounce Cognac
1 Ounce Sweet Vermouth
1 Teaspoon of Bénédictine D.O.M.
4 Dashes of Bitters (Angostura, Peychaud's, or a mix of both)
Directions:
In a tumbler, add ice and stir in the ingredients. Mix well.
Cover and slowly pour out the ingredients in a chilled glass.
Add a sprig of mint if desired or a few cubes of rough chipped ice and serve.
